Auckland Data Map brings official data from many government agencies into one interactive map of Auckland, so you can compare 21 local board areas and 196 neighbourhoods on the same basis.
How we work
Every figure comes from an official source (Stats NZ, NZ Police, Auckland Transport, Auckland Council, MBIE, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health), with the source and year shown.
Stars only compare an area with the Auckland average. There is no ranking and no overall score; formulas and weights are published on the Methodology page.
Ethnicity and income are described only — never used in stars or suggestions. Crime is shown down to local board level only; neighbourhoods get no safety stars.
Figures we derive ourselves (such as public transport time to the city centre) are labelled as estimates, with the method stated.
Each area lists strengths and things to keep in mind, in neutral, numeric language.
Limits of the data
Census figures are from 2023; crime, rent and timetables use each source’s latest release.
The city centre (Waitematā) has many commuters and visitors who are not residents, so its crime rate and shop density read high.
Areas with very small populations (such as Aotea/Great Barrier) have unstable rates and are not given stars.
Independence
This site is not affiliated with Auckland Council, Stats NZ or any other data source. If ads are shown in future, they will never affect any figure, star or suggestion, and will be clearly labelled.
